EMERGENCY SITUATION UPDATE AND CALL FOR SUPPORT

Strong Earthquake Impacts Southern Mindanao
Daloy Care Organization, Inc., expresses its deep concern following the powerful Magnitude 7.8 earthquake that struck off the coast of Maasim, Sarangani Province, affecting communities across Southern Mindanao and neighboring areas.
Based on the initial government reports, the earthquake generated strong ground shaking across multiple provinces, resulting in damage to infrastructure, disruptions to electricity and telecommunications services, and significant concern among affected communities. More than 100 aftershocks have been recorded, creating ongoing risks for families, children, and vulnerable populations. National government agencies, including the Office of Civil Defense (OCD), Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), Department of Health (DOH), Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), and other response partners, have mobilized to support emergency response and rapid damage assessments in the affected areas.
While initial reports indicate no major tsunami impact, authorities have urged continued vigilance in coastal communities due to tsunami advisories and the possibility of dangerous sea-level disturbances.
Daloy Care’s Response
Daloy Care Organization, Inc., with other key players in the ground are closely monitoring the situation and coordinating with local government units, community leaders, and humanitarian partners to assess the needs of affected families.
Particular attention is being given to:
• Children and families displaced by the earthquake
• Indigenous and geographically isolated communities
• Coastal populations at risk from secondary hazards
• Women, older persons, and persons with disabilities requiring urgent assistance
